I remember thirty years ago one of my smart colleagues was questioning how the future for developers would look, as “code writing will be automated”, he said.
That day is not yet here fully, but dawn has broken.
For the first time in the digital transformation journey real disruption is about to begin for the people behind the disruption – developers themselves.
GitHub, a company Microsoft brilliantly acquired in 2018, is at the forefront of this type of disruption. According to GitHub, of the 5,000+ companies who have tried their AI-powered CoPilot product, developers experience 55% faster coding and AI has written 46% of their code.
And now, they are introducing the next-generation of this product, which is based on OpenAI’s latest generation ChatGPT 4. GitHub Copilot X: The AI-powered developer experience | The GitHub Blog
It is early days still, but mundane tasks and endless googling to find solutions to common coding problems can already be performed much quicker using AI.
This is just one of many examples of how AI is now becoming more relevant to more and more jobs. The winners will be those who are able to harness the power of human creativity combined with mastering the art & skill of leveraging AI in their setting. In the words of Bill Gates himself, “Artificial intelligence like ChatGPT will change our world and make it far more efficient”.
